Makom Manitou

Laurentian Jewish Cemetery / Cimetière Juif des Laurentides

We are an inclusive Jewish community

Makom Manitou is an inclusive, environmentally conscious Jewish cemetery located in Ivry-sur-le-Lac, Quebec. We offer a final resting place that honours the fullness of Jewish life, the diversity of the Jewish community, and our responsibility to the environment. Guided by principles of inclusivity, egalitarianism, and environmental stewardship, we offer natural burial options designed to minimize environmental impact.

Our name reflects both our location — alongside Lac Manitou — and the Hebrew word makom, meaning place, which in Jewish tradition also carries a connotation of the divine. Set among the mountains, lakes, and forests of the Laurentians, Makom Manitou is a place of remembrance and ritual for the Jewish community, rooted in tradition and in the landscape it inhabits.
